I’m happy to speak on the writing process, what it means to write while neurodivergent and disabled, and developing story and character. About J.R. Hart

J.R. Hart is a thirty-something author writing LGBTQ+ neurodivergent stories, focusing on LGBTQ+ characters who are sometimes neurodivergent. While their stories almost always follow beloved romance arcs, sometimes they end in queerplatonic partnerships instead.

When J.R. isn’t at home writing, they’re trying to taste every drink on the seasonal menu at their library’s cafe, exploring a science museum, or learning any fiber craft they can get their hands on (they’ve never gotten the hang of knitting, and they can’t count well enough to finish a crochet blanket, but they’re trying!) They have one kiddo, two dogs, and far more coffee mugs than are necessary. Hart was born and raised in the Kansas City area and considers it home.

In addition to writing, Hart spoke in the panel “Writing Asexual and Aromantic Characters” for WriteHive 2021. In 2022, they were in the “Mental Health: On the Page and Off” panel, as well as “Just Roommates: Writing Queer Characters.” For WriteHive 2023, they were in the “Reading for Business vs. Reading for Pleasure” panel. They also appeared on the WordNerd Podcast series in August 2023, and the episodes can be found on the WriteHive Patreon. As an avid soccer fan and Sporting KC supporter, Hart appeared on the LGBT FC podcast to talk all things Sporting Kansas City and MLS in the episode titled “We’re Not In Kansas Anymore.”

In 2022, Hart served as a mentor for the Inclusive Romance Project. Hart is currently serving as a mentor with WriteHive’s Mentorship Program.

Hart wrote and edited for the indie gaming magazine, Patch Magazine. As an Animal Crossing: New Horizons fan, Hart also served as the Assistant Editor and a writer for The Crossing Board, a monthly Animal Crossing fanzine, in 2022.
